SAGINAW, MI — Twenty-three years ago, the brutalized body of a Birch Run grandmother was found in the Flint River. The case went cold until 2024, when DNA evidence linked a former relative-by-marriage to the slain woman’s homicide.

It’s not the first time McCaffrey’s faced murder charges. He was charged with his missing wife’s murder in 2018 but a jury did not indict him. Instead, he was later convicted on obstruction charges in his wife’s disappearance and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
